Preaching Instruction - Online

bob w kenyan pastor

During the 1990s I lived with my family in Kenya seeking to strengthen leadership in the Kenyan body of Christ. Kenyans are passionate preachers, but have not often had the opportunity to learn how to study the Scriptures for themselves. Consequently, sermons in many Kenyan pulpits offer more heat than light. I know the same to be true in many countries around the world.

After we returned to the States in 2000, I had the opportunity to preach regularly on a Christian radio program, an experience that introduced me to the world of audio recording. During that time, I was challenged by a colleague to use my love for preaching to assist upcoming preachers around the world by offering some step by step examples on studying a passage and working it into an expository sermon.

The challenge of doing that is that many of the preachers I desired to help do not have access to the internet. So the Lord gave me an idea that is illustrated by the picture showing me with a Kenyan pastor. Missionaries and expatriates in many countries have internet access. They also have contact with national pastors. Viola! What if I could create a way, using the internet, to have people with computer access to convey preaching instruction to pastors who want to learn?

I set about to see if this might be possible. The solution I have come up with is cost effective... exactly $29.95 per month (which my supporters are covering). With that monthly fee, I maintain two websites that are literally reaching the world. Is that exciting or what?

http://onechallenge.org/ltpreach   This is the beginning point. From here, the user can access two things:

  • transcribed copies (in PDF format) of several of he preaching lessons
  • a link to a companion website that contains many audio preaching lessons

The location of this audio website is http://sermonaudio.com/learntopreach

How might these resources realate to you:

1. If you are an aspiring preacher, please take advantage of them.

2. If you could be that conduit to a learning-preacher who does not have access to the internet, please download some of the audio and printed materials and give them away.

3. Tell others about these resources. I can't publicize them. Good thing word-of-mouth is the most effective publicity available!
